5 Crazy Bloody Marys to Cure Your Horrible Hangover

bloody mary cocktail for hangover, how to cure hangover with bloody mary cocktails

When it comes to choosing a mass-market tomato juice for bloodies, it's basically either V-8 or Clamato. You can like both, of course, but you should really pick a side.

I've always preferred V-8's salty viscosity over Clamato's more quaffable lightness, though both make a fine bloody in a pinch. V-8 is kind of like the A-1 steak sauce of supermarket-stocked vegetable drinks; even if it's not the best mary mixer out there, it's still pretty damn good.

V-8 has seized upon its alpha juice status by launching a website called the Bloody Mary Society, which assembles bloodies inspired by cities around the country. Most are considerably more labor-intensive than merely adding a shot of vodka to your V-8 on ice and augmenting with worcestershire, black pepper and/or horseradish.

That'll do just fine, but these five freaky bloodies are for adventurous types who want to kick it up a notch.

5 Star Wars Cocktails from a Galaxy Far, Far Away

cocktails inspired by the movie star wars, new cocktail recipes

"It has been 40 years since the world first laid eyes on Luke, Leia, Solo, Chewie and their merry droid friends. (OK, maybe C3PO is a bit more maudlin than merry, but can you blame his fretful nature with so much unrest in the galaxy?) And it appears our fascination with them, and every teased out branch of the Star Wars franchise since, hasn’t waned since the release of the first film back in 1977.

What do master distillers drink when they drink cocktails?

"If you regard straight spirit sipper superior to a finely crafted cocktail, you’re hardly alone. But consider this: Even the precise palates of the world’s great master distillers are open to a few modifiers every now and then. In fact, many of them proudly label themselves cocktail enthusiasts.

And why shouldn’t they? Proper mixology is about enhancing rather than diminishing the essence of any base spirit. In other words, the more you appreciate a liquor, the more you should appreciate a well-engineered drink built around it. Supporting evidence comes in the form of testimony from the following liquor makers, as they reveal their favorite ways to mix things up.

Are Martinis Better at Room Temperature?

are martinis better at romm temperatute, martinis served in room temperature, martini recipes
plumpjack.com
"When it comes to Gin Martinis, most bartenders—and drinkers—subscribe to the Outkast rule: The only thing cooler than being cool is being ice cold. Much like drinking a skunky beer left in a hot car or a wine that has been corked, it’s almost blasphemous to suggest a Martini should be served any way other than damn near icy.

Cocktails to Order instead of Gin and Tonic

Cocktails to order instead of Gin and Tonic
Gin and Tonic
Spritzy and refreshing with a bittersweet finish, the Gin and Tonic is a two-ingredient cocktail whose beauty lies in its simple construction and quality ingredients.

...what does a Clothespin do in my Cocktail?

"The latest cocktail trend is teeny tiny, undeniably adorable and looks like it has been ripped from a Pinterest board. Mini clothespins are securing to your glass everything from citrus peels and chamomile blossoms to notecards and nibbles. But do they make the garnish more about style than substance? And does your lemon twist really need to be hung out to dry?

Absinthe: a cocktail of myth

absinthe,cocktails.history of absinthe

"The history of absinthe is a cocktail of myth, conjecture and controversy. A turn-of-the-twentieth-century favorite of artists and writers, the spirit was banned in the United States in 1912 because it was believed to be hallucinogenic. Just a few years ago, it once again became legal in America to buy the high-alcohol, anise-flavored liquor.

The term “absinthe” comes from Artemisia absinthium, the scientific name for its key ingredient, wormwood. Long before distillers discovered it, the herb was used for medicinal purposes.

The production of absinthe is much like that of gin: High-proof neutral spirit is infused with a blend of botanicals, including wormwood, and redistilled. Traditionally, the alcohol is infused a second time before bottling to intensify the flavor and create the signature green color. Many modern producers skip this final step and use dyes instead.

HOW TO DRINK ABSINTHE:

The traditional preparation is to slowly drip water over a sugar cube and into the spirit, which becomes cloudy (this is called the louche). According to Jim Meehan, an award-winning mixologist and a Liquor.com advisor, you can also use small quantities of absinthe (a few dashes, a rinse or a quarter-ounce) to add a floral, bittersweet quality to just about any cocktail. You also need absinthe to make a proper Sazerac, a Corpse Reviver #2 and a Death in the Afternoon." - Source

Cocktail of the Weekend: Lond Island Iced Tea

cocktail with rum,how to make long island iced tea, ingredients of long island iced tea

"The Long Island Iced Tea is what happens when four different spirits collide to create one powerful drink. It’s not clear who thought this was a good idea and if this tastes at all like iced tea, but one can agree that the Long Island Iced Tea is responsible for a few stories of irresponsibility, at least a dozen memories of good times and even more hangovers than we can count.

The story of the Long Island Iced Tea is shrouded in mystery. But rest assured this drink is easy to master, if only one can say the same for the morning after.

INGREDIENTS IN THE LONG ISLAND ICED TEA COCKTAIL

  • 3⁄4 oz White rum
  • 3⁄4 oz Silver tequila
  • 3⁄4 oz Vodka
