Do You Know the 5 Essential Rules to Drink Vodka the Russian Way?
Now in its third year, Kachka remains one of the country’s most singular restaurants. The Russian eatery, slotted into a cramped storefront on Portland, Ore.’s eastside, specializes in zakuski, which literally translates to “vodka snacks.” And although the bar stocks an encyclopedic list of labels, spanning from Kaliningrad to Kentucky to all points in between, co-owner Israel Morales stresses that vodka isn’t just about what’s in the bottle. It’s about sharing it with friends and food. These are his five rules for drinking vodka the Russian way.

A genious scientist may have just created a pill to prevent hangovers
Drinking without the fear of a hangover the next morning is something most of us have probably dreamed of. Sure, there are lots of antidotes on the market that claim to help prevent the aftereffects of too much booze, but one California scientist is close to creating a pill that uses natural enzymes to help the body process alcohol faster.
UCLA professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering Yunfeng Lu told The Conversation he not only wants to prevent hangovers, he hopes his treatment could treat intoxication and overdose victims in the ER. The antidote has been successful in trials with mice so far, decreasing their blood alcohol level by 45 percent in just four hours compared to mice that didn’t receive any treatment.
The self-proclaimed wine enthusiast also noted that the inebriated mice woke from their alcohol-induced slumber faster than their untreated counterparts. If the treatments prove effective in animals, they could begin human clinical trials in as early as one year.
We’ll just be here crossing our fingers.

Kardamena,Kos: Welcome to Our Home!
commons.wikimedia.org |
Kardamena is a beautiful coastal village about 30km from the city of Kos and just 6 km from the airport.
Ancient Alassarna, one of the six ancient cities of the island, was an important religious center of the times, as testified by the ruins of temple of Apollo and other, smaller temples of the ancient and Byzantine periods. For the past 30 years or so, every summer systematic excavations by the University of Athens take place. Neolithic, geometric and classic era remnants indicate, consistent habitation of the area which flourished during the Hellenistic period and retained it’s vigor in the Roman and early Christian eras.
