"The classic martini known as the Godfather is almost as infamous as its movie counterpart. Although it unfortunately doesn’t come with Al Pacino, it does include a nice dose of amaretto that is sure to win you over nonetheless.

This simple yet delicious concoction is served in bars all across the globe, and its popularity does not appear to be lessening anytime soon.

Here’s a little background on the drink that is fit for both you and the Italian Mafia.

History of the Godfather
Despite how well known this cocktail is, the origin of the name is blurry. Disaronno, which is a brand of amaretto that is commonly used in this drink, claims that the Godfather was a favorite of Marlon Brando. As any respected movie aficionado will know, Marlon Brando starred in the original adaptation of the movie The Godfather. As the Italian mob was such a prominent component of The Godfather, many think that the name of the cocktail is the same as the movie because of the drink containing Italian liqueur.

Whatever the reason is behind why it acquired such a name, it is certain that the Godfather lives up to it. A drink that is good enough for Marlon Brando is a drink that is certainly good enough for me.

Recipe
The ingredient list for the Godfather is short, sweet, and to the point. Simply pour two parts scotch whiskey and two parts amaretto into a glass that is filled with ice. Stir gently in order to properly mix this combination.

Variations on the Godfather
Like most popular drinks, the Godfather has a few variations of it’s own. It is not uncommon for the amaretto to be reduced to one part, and Disaronno even recommends that. Additionally, Bourbon is oftentimes used in place of scotch.

There is another drink called the Godmother, and that uses vodka instead of the traditional whiskey. It is recognized as an official cocktail, and you can order it at most places.
Lastly, there is the Godchild, which uses cream instead scotch. This variation is not as popular as the others, but it is still frequently ordered." ~ Source
